This movie was teased at the end of Exit Festival 2021 performance in July with fragments about Milunka SaviД‡ ( Lady of the Dark) which the band posted in September 2021 on Sabaton's YouTube channel. The band made over hour long (70 minutes) video with Yarnhub accompanying the album to help better understand the stories behind the songs.Recording of the choirs was also a challenge because of the pandemic.Due to COVID-19, it was impossible for the band to be together during the whole process.

Recording the album during the pandemic only affected the presence of the band members at the same time in the studio.

He said that waiting for the album to be released a year after it's been done is such a drag and feels like it was a long time ago.

Joakim said that he'd want to release the album for the fans the day after it's done, but he knows that decision is not up to him.

Recording of the album started in January and ended in March 2021.

The rest of the band doesn't live in Falun so it wasn't possible to meet.

The pandemic made harder to write the songs for the album with the other band members, as Joakim being the main composer lives in Norway and every time he crossed the border, he had to be quarantined.

Both Chris and Joakim admitted that it was a fun time to write the songs and that everything about the songwriting process went natural.

After about a year, the material was being worked on again.

The large part of the album was written in March 2020 by Joakim and Chris during two weeks long self-quarantine writing sessions in the band's warehouse in Falun, after Sabaton was forced to cancel their 2021 tour in Russia due to COVID-19 outbreak.

The stories that the band didn't hear about before writing this album: White Friday ( Soldier of Heaven) and Milunka SaviД‡.

When The Great War was released, the band was aware that they couldn't fit every story from World War I on a single album and even though they wanted to include some stories, they didn't have the right music for them.

Sabaton received many e-mails from fans about the World War I stories they didn't include on The Great War album that inspired the lyrics on this album.

The band didn't plan to make a second album about World War I from the start but rather grew into that idea during the work.

The album was created because the band couldn't tour due to COVID-19, Christmas Truce along with some other singles were at first planned to support The Great War album.

On the album was officially made available for pre-order on Nuclear Blast Shop.

The artwork for the album was previously revealed with the album's tour The Tour to End All Tours on.
